Nature - Early Spring
Oh, Spring, how I love you! It’s my favorite season. The birdsong, blooms, cool mornings and warm afternoon breezes, chirping tree frogs, sweet air, tiny green leaves sprouting on the trees….it all fills me with joy! I can’t wait to get outside, everyday, and breathe in the beauty and peace.
McCoy
These were some of the first daffodils I spotted at McCoy Farm and Gardens in early March. They make me smile. They’re the birthday flower of our youngest daughter and they make me think of my childhood and my favorite poet, William Wordsworth.
This baby weeping willow at McCoy is so sweet! I look forward to watching it grow in the coming years.
I think the hardwoods are beautiful, even without their leaves. You can see all the silvery, tiny branches against the bluebird sky.
Our Yard
The precious crocuses were planted around our backyard playhouse years ago by our Lizzy. They are the first flower to pop up in our yard and multiply every year. I look forward to seeing them at the very end of winter and beginning of spring.
I don’t remember seeing the pretty lilac color before. I thought we had only white but what a beautiful surprise.
Our little violas survived the winter snows and have come back in our front window boxes. They smell so good…sort of a grape scent to me.
Our little cherry tree is blooming! David and I planted this sweet tree for our 30th wedding anniversary in 2020. It will always be extra special due to the pandemic year. We were supposed to travel to England for our 30th but, of course, had to cancel our plans. The tree was a happy thing to commemorate our anniversary and every year, it has grown and bloomed more and more. It’s sort of a testament to how things do usually get better and survive and thrive.
Big Soddy Creek Gulf
David and I went for a woodland walk here in early March. It’s a gorgeous area not far from us in Soddy Daisy. The gravel “trail” was once a mining road and is fairly level and easy to navigate. There are two parking lots, picnic areas, swimming holes, small waterfalls, the creek itself and porta potties.
The color of this water! There were several fly fishermen there on this day. Apparently, it was “opening” day for trout fishing.
The soothing sound of the creek is good for the soul.
The late afternoon sunlight dancing on the water is just delightful.
Back at McCoy
A couple of weeks later, in mid March, and more flowers are blooming! How sweet are these snow drops?! I’d love to plant these in our yard for next year.
Forsythia
I love this bright yellow shrub. It grows abundantly where we live and makes me smile every time I see it.
Lenten Rose
This hellebore has become a recent love of mine. I’d love to add these beauties to our yard.

Vinca
Seeing these tiny purple flowers return in the woods every year makes me happy.
Star Magnolia
I’ve never noticed these enchanting trees before. I really like them!
